The IOM Sri Lanka and Maldives hosted an official visit by the Sustainable Development Council to discuss the current programmes and partnership opportunities.
IOM Chief of Mission, Sarat Dash, whilst commending the leadership role played by the Sustainable Development Council presented the current portfolio of programs in the areas of migration and sustainable development.
The Migrant Health Assessment Centre, which is the latest initiative of IOM Sri Lanka established in line with the National Migration Health Policy seeks to ensure that migrants and mobile populations benefit from an improved standard of physical, mental and social well-being, enabling them to substantially contribute towards the social and economic development of their home communities and host societies.
The discussion opened up partnership opportunities in several areas, particularly in developing the Migration Information Management System and the creation of an enabling environment for the Sri Lankan living abroad to engage in the development process of the country.
