Science, technology, research and innovation are key drivers of sustainable development having significant potential for driving transformational change in social, economic and environmental spheres.

With this in mind, an awareness session was conducted by the Sustainable Development Council for the relevant officials of the Research and Innovation Division of the Ministry of Education and the institutions coming under its purview on identifying strategies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets through aligning the functions and activities more effectively with the SDGs.

The Director General (Research) Mr.P.M.Dharmathilaka and Director General (Planning) Mrs. M.M.G.K.Meegahakotuwa and others officials of the Research and Innovation Division of the Ministry of Education, representatives of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies(ACCIMT), National Engineering Research Development Centre(NERDC), National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka(NSF), National Science and Technology Commission(NASTEC), National Institute of Fundamental Studies(NIFS), Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) and National Innovation Agency - Sri Lanka(NIA) and the Director General of the Sustainable Development Council Ms.Chamindry Saparamadu and other officers of the SDCSL participated in this discussion.
