The ‘People-centric Green Religious Places in Sri Lanka’ program is based on a multi-pronged approach to encourage the use of alternative energy and tackle waste management in religious sites. Additionally, it aims to transform surplus land and food in the possession of religious places into productive assets, thus promoting climate prosperity and social inclusivity, and contributing towards the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is implemented as a collaborative initiative between the Presidential Secretariat, Sustainable Development Council, Ministries, Private Sector, Civil societies, Philanthropists, and devotees of all faiths as an island-wide program under the recently launched Climate Prosperity Plan.
