The recent discussions between the Sustainable Development Council, JICA Sri Lanka/スリランカ事務所 and the Embassy of Japan focused on a number of areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration to advance the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  At the meeting, the importance of sub-national level ecological footprint calculations was discussed at length in view of the increasing trend of deficit in biocapacity as per the national level calculations of the Global Footprint Network. The importance of utilizing ecological footprint calculations as a decision-making tool in development planning was also highlighted during the discussion. 

The meeting took place between the JICA Chief Representative Tetsuya YAMADA, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan  KATSUKI Kotaro, the Director General of the Sustainable Development Council Chamindry Saparamadu and other senior officials representing JICA, Embassy of Japan and the Sustainable Development Council.
