A robust SDG monitoring system will help Sri Lanka to develop strategies to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and allocate resources accordingly.
In order to further strengthen the Integrated National SDG Data Management System, which comprises of National SDG Progress Dashboard (https://sdc.gov.lk/en/sdg-lka-23) and SDG Data Portal (https://data.sdg.lk/), a virtual seminar was held today for the senior planning officials of the Government Ministries.
The Seminar was organized by the Sustainable Development Council in collaboration with the UN ESCAP Statistics Division with the aim of strengthening the current SDG data coordination mechanism at the national level and ensuring timely data updates for a robust SDG monitoring mechanism.
The discussion focused on the Guiding Principles for effective national SDG coordination, the role of data providers, data Coordinator, and the Statistical Office, and data quality issues as well as identifying a road map for strengthening the current coordination mechanism.
Over 70 participants, representing 19 government ministries, attended the virtual seminar. It was agreed to meet quarterly to roll out the Roadmap to strengthen the current SDG data coordination mechanism.
