SDG Mainstreaming Workshop for the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation

A Workshop on SDG Mainstreaming was conducted for the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation by the Sustainable Development Council of Sri Lanka (SDCSL) on 12th January 2021 at the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation. SDCSL is mandated to provide guidance relating to sustainable development to ministries and other government institutions in terms of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Development Act, No 19 of 2017.

Within the national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’, 02 Sustainable Development Goals and 07 Targets are directly relevant to the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation. In terms of the Sustainable Environment Policy of the Government, the Ministry’s responsibilities extend to sustainable forest management, combating desertification, ensuring the conservation of mountain systems including their bio-diversity and taking action to ending poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna. The incorporation of those Goals and Targets into the Ministry work plan and programmes was discussed at the workshop.

The workshop was attended by the Hon. Minister of Wildlife and Forest Conservation C. B. Rathnayake, Additional Secretary (Administration) Mr. P. H. Ananda and other relevant officials from the Ministry. The workshop was conducted by the officials of SDCSL, Chamindry Saparamadu (Director General), Nadeeka Amarasinghe (Assistant Director) and Sheron Hewawaduge (Assistant Director).
