To accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through library and information services and related programs while contributing to the education for sustainable development, the Sri Lanka Library Association - SLLA entered into an agreement today with the Sustainable Development Council. 

SLLA was established in 1974 and it represents the interests of both its members as well as the interests of libraries in different sectors including public libraries, university and school libraries, libraries in technical colleges, piriven and government departments. The total number of active library memberships exceeds 100,000 in more than 1,000 libraries functioning within the SLLA network. 

This collaborative effort of the Sustainable Development Council and the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) was undertaken with the objectives of Initiating and implementing library and information services, activities and programs that support the achievement of SDGs, facilitating and conducting awareness sessions to educate communities on sustainability and sustainable development, sharing of resource persons and learning resources between the two partner institutions, introducing sustainable development and SDGs into library and information science education programs among others. 

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed this morning between the President of the Sri Lanka Library Association R.D. Ananda Tissa and the Director General of the Sustainable Development Council Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu at the SDCSL premises. Sustainable Development Council of Sri Lanka
