The significance of the existence of an affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy source for all​

The existence of an affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy source for all is vital in increasing the efficiency of each and every sector. Today, Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu, Director General of SDCSL and the officials of SDCSL had a discussion with Hon. Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Power and Energy, regarding the requirement of a sustainable energy road map. Officials representing the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office, UNDP Sri Lanka and Additional Secretaries of the Ministry also attended the discussion.

The necessity of green bonds to expand the energy sector by overcoming the prevailing economic issues, climate finance options and the prevalence of innovative financing opportunities were especially highlighted in the discussion. Moreover, the Green Bonds Framework and the debt for climate swap in facilitating the energy transition suggested by the United Nations ESCAP and the financial and technical assistance that can be granted from the UN agencies were also discussed in the session.
